to apply for the job
Burlöv is an exciting municipality in the growth region between Malmö and Lund. We have a close organizational culture that enables and emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a sustainable work life. Together we develop the operations and create value for our citizens.
Do you want to help build the attractive, accessible, sustainable, and safe Burlöv?
At the Technical Department within the Community Building Administration, we work to improve citizens' everyday lives through the operation and maintenance of traffic facilities, roads & streets, green areas, playgrounds, municipal properties, city networks, and related projects. We are 12 employees: department head, managers, engineers, project leaders, coordinators, and the operations manager who has property technicians and safety guards. As a traffic engineer, you will report directly to the department head, and we are located in the Citizen House in Arlöv.
Our current traffic engineer will take on another role in the organization as a traffic planner, and we are therefore looking for a person to step in and take over their responsibilities. The focus of the role is more on managing existing traffic environments than planning new ones – but the position still involves a lot of development work as our municipality is experiencing rapid growth and strong community development. Burlöv is also traffic-wise interesting: in terms of area, it is Sweden's second smallest municipality, but the infrastructure resembles that of a big city. With Burlöv's strategic geographical location, there are important commuting routes that need to be promoted and developed to meet future mobility needs.
Here you will meet a group of colleagues with a welcoming, helpful, and friendly atmosphere filled with laughter! We care about each other, have a strong sense of our mission, and take it very seriously, as it is important for the municipality's citizens. We strive for a balanced gender distribution and diversity. Therefore, we welcome applicants with different backgrounds and experiences for the position. Do you want to help develop traffic in Burlöv municipality? Welcome with your application!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The mix of managing high traffic flows from the Transport Administration's roads and the sensitivity needed when handling village streets in Åkarp or securing school routes in Arlöv makes the role varied and full of contact points. You will be an important link between the municipality's planning, project implementation, and daily operations. In urban development projects, you represent the operational perspective.
As a traffic engineer, you need to consider several different perspectives in your assessments. Our work in the department is governed by political decisions. Traffic is also an area where our citizens have many questions and opinions. In a small municipality, there is a close relationship between citizens - politics - civil servants. Therefore, trust in each other's roles is crucial. In Burlöv, we also have Skåne's best and Sweden's third-best business climate - these awards do not come automatically but are achieved through a focus that permeates our entire organization. In the role of traffic engineer, this is an example of the different interests you need to balance in your assessments to make well-founded decisions.
Specifically, your most common tasks will be to:
- Manage LTFs (local traffic regulations) & traffic signs
- Assess excavation permit applications, traffic plans & heavy transports
- Coordinate communication during closures with contractors and authorities such as the Police
- Assess obstruction conditions / use of public space
- Hold dialogues with citizens via phone, email, and in the case management system
- Work on improving & developing traffic safety and accessibility
- Prepare cases for decision in political committees
- Compile reports as decision support
- Project manage smaller projects in the street environment
- Handle authority contacts
- Conduct traffic measurements
- Manage electric vehicle chargers
QUALIFICATIONS
Your three most important qualities are that you are engaged - meaning you take responsibility and show joy in fulfilling our mission in the municipality, that you are structured - planning and organizing your work effectively, and that you are communicatively skilled - easily collaborating and maintaining good contact with both external parties, colleagues in other departments, and our citizens. Furthermore, you need to have the ability to lead yourself, meaning you identify what needs to be done and take the initiative to do it. We colleagues constantly help each other, but you must own your assignment.
For all of us in the department, it is important that we, as teammates, communicate openly and honestly with each other. We strive to collaborate instead of holding onto our respective positions. This means looking at the whole of the assignment and sometimes letting go of a personal task to help a colleague. We all have different backgrounds, ages, experiences, and strengths. The power arises when we collaborate. It is also perfectly okay to make mistakes - what matters is that you strive to do your best and learn from your mistakes, so that you develop in your professional role and that we as a department constantly improve.
Computer, tablet, and smartphone are tools we use, so you need to have IT skills and be quick to learn the systems needed for the job. Regarding remote work, the starting point is work on-site, with the possibility to work a maximum of one day per week remotely when the business allows it. We offer benefits such as flexible hours, wellness grants of 3,000 SEK/year, and a gym in the Citizen House.
Requirements:
- Education as a university or civil engineer in road and traffic engineering, community building, or other education and experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Excellent Swedish in speech and writing.
- Good knowledge of the Office package and general IT skills.
- Driving license B.
Meritorious:
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of street environments.
- Education/knowledge in work on roads, contract law, AMA, LOU (Public Procurement Act), BAS-P & BAS-U, traffic signs, parking, vehicle relocation.
- Experience working in a politically governed organization.
Warm welcome with your application!
